On the evening of June 15, 2023, the 13th lecture of the "New Horizons Overseas" series was successfully convened online by the Civil, Commercial, and Economic Law School at China University of Political Science and Law (CUPL). Ivan Cardillo, a teaching fellow from the Faculty of Law, University of Trento, and the Director of the Institute of Chinese Law, delivered a seminal lecture titled "China as Norm-Shaper: The Impact of BRI on Global Legal Order." Professor Zhang Qinyu, the Director of the Economic Law Institute, served as the moderator of the lecture.

Director Ivan Cardillo elucidated the influence of China's Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) on the international legal order from his research standpoint, exploring avenues for fostering trust and cooperation amongst nations. He pointed out that a coherent legal and regulatory framework is pivotal in enhancing mutual trust, foreseeing the repercussions of actions, and safeguarding business transactions. He emphasized that the Belt and Road Initiative aspires to foster global shared development, necessitating balanced development through concerted cooperation between governments and societal groups. He stated that in the realization of the Belt and Road Initiative, sustaining dialogue and coordination between nations, honoring national sovereignty, and acknowledging pluralistic values are indispensable in optimizing the global legal order.
