From 15 to 17 September 2021, the 18th Asian Law Institute (ASLI) Conference, was held by Universitas Pelita Harapan. Organised annually by ASLI, the conference provides a platform for legal academics and scholars from ASLI member institutions, as well as from Asia and beyond, to present their research and examine contemporary legal issues of interest to Asian jurisdictions. The theme for the conference was “Law, Technology, and Diversity in Asia”. More than 106 participants attended the Opening of the Conference and a total of 122 papers were presented over the three days.
The Conference covered legal issues related to a wide variety of subjects that include Information Technology Law, Criminal Law, International Arbitration and Dispute Resolution, Constitutional & Admin Law, Law & Society, Competition Law, Environmental Law, Intellectual Property Rights, among others.
Associate Professor Du Wen and Assistant Professor Zhao Yanrong of the Civil, Commercial and Economic Law School, China University of Political Science and Law, participated in the sub-venue themed “Law & Society” and respectively delivered speeches.
About ASLI:
The Asian Law Institute (ASLI) was established in 2003 through the efforts of several leading Asian law schools including Peking University Law School, National University of Singapore, Faculty of Law and University of Hong Kong, Faculty of Law, to foster Asian legal scholarship and to facilitate greater interaction among legal scholars in Asia as well as legal scholars outside Asia working on Asian law. It prides itself as an indigenous Institute of Asian law, created in Asia by Asian law schools and open to the world. The acronym "ASLI", which means "indigenous" or "original" in several Asian languages, reflects the essence of the institution which aims to be a truly home-grown Asian law institute in Asia. The society is committed to the study of legal issues in Asia and the promotion of exchanges among scholars. It aims to promote the development of legal academic research and legal education in Asia and even the whole Asia Pacific region, build a platform for the communication and exchange of Asian legal workers, and support legal workers to engage in the cause related to Asian law research, and has become the most influential legal exchange platform in Asia. The National University of Singapore (NUS), which led the initiative, continues to provide administrative and financial support for ASLI, including hosting its Secretariat at the NUS Law School.
